A pause in development

We were hoping to get cracking on the development straight after xmas, but a couple of things happened.

We knew the results of the trial pits could affect the structural design, and they did. Because the foundations were sound, we didn’t have to underpin any walls or knock down and rebuild them. Great! But this meant redrawing / rethinking the structural plans, and because we decided not to dig the trial pits until the demolition guys could do it, this didn’t give us much time to redraw them.

On top of this, we found the ‘measured survey’ we originally commissioned was way out in some parts of the building. Basically, they had assumed that the walls were straight and parallel, which they’re obviously not. The company came out on 3rd Jan and did it promptly, but this still meant that Jem and Chris had to redraw their drawings as well, which cost me in time and money. It’s worth noting that the plot is bigger, not smaller! Now the drawings are accurate, and we’re just waiting for final drawings to come along with the details for the rebar (the steel rods to put in the concrete).

So, we’re starting onsite on the 23rd January. There’s no point doing bits and bats before this. When we’re on, we’re on.
