Our architect

Planning · Design & drawings

We’ve appointed Works Architecture to be our architects for our project. How we got there was a bit weird!

The only architect we know is a friend of mine that I hadn’t seen for years, that I used to go to school with. A guy called Jem Southgate. I sent him an email on the off chance that he was even in this country still. He sent me an email right back saying he’d set up a practice in London, and our project was right up his street (figuratively speaking, not literally…)

The funny thing was, Kate and I were looking at things on the laptop in our kitchen as Jem informed me he was featured in one of the myriad of house magazines. Spookily, this magazine was the only one sat right next to us, and there was Jem…

After explaining to him that I pay Doncaster rates, not London rates, and then mates rates on top of that, we agreed for him to do it.

Great design is worth it.

Here’s a very early concept fly through of what our new home might look like.
