Our new wine rack!

The first thing we decided to build was, to us, the most important part of the build, the basement wine rack…

We constructed our wine rack by shuttering the shape in the cellar out of plywood, then mass filling it with concrete. When the concrete dries, we take off the shuttering and are left with a beautiful concrete block. At one end, the concrete is indented, which we will add wooden shelving to form our new wine rack.

(no, of course it’s not just a wine rack! It’s a structural foundation for the ground floor slab that will cantilever to support the columns and slabs above it. It’s also going to have a wine rack at one end! Thanks for thinking that one up Jem!)
